A new, exciting music and cross-cultural collaboration program for our music students in Delmas 32 has emerged this month.
Music Heals International and J/P HRO are working with the Bay Area Music Program in partnership with the Take Me To The River Foundation, to bring a student choir ensemble from the Bay Area together with the instrumental band from Haiti; the goal was to arrange, rehearse and ultimately record two songs in English and Haitian Creole that showcase the incredible talents of both programs, working together even though they’re thousands of miles apart.
The first recording session happened in Haiti and was a great success. The students in both countries have chosen The White Stripes’ We Are Going To Be Friends and a traditional Haitian folk song to learn and record. Connecting the students via video chat, the students felt the spirit of collaboration during rehearsals and throughout the recording process.
